Not every heavy metal band has their own gin, let alone full drinks range which includes wines, rum, tequila, whiskey, schnapps, beers and vodkas! That’s before the merchandise ranges which include traditional tee shirts, doormats and even toilet roll!? Rammestein, a German Rock and Roll band are one of Germany’s biggest music exports and they are scheduled to play a sold out RDS arena in June this year.

This month’s gin was created by the band itself and it boasts a fairly traditional botanical list, with juniper at its core supported by angelica, coriander and citrus.

We’re not sure about the descriptions and comparisons to specific songs in their repertoire but here goes anyway! The band describe the spirit as closer to the romantic tune “Ohne dich kann ich nicht sein” (translation: ‘without you, I cannot be’) than their hard-rocking song“Feuer Frei!” (‘Open Fire!’)

What we do know, having tasted the gin is that it is made in the traditional dry style, with a vivid blend of botanicals including juniper, coriander, angelica root and lemon rind. The result is a bright, juniper-led gin with some subtle earthy spice, piney forest floor, zesty citrus fruit and bittersweet berries.

The gin appears extremely hard to find because fans of the band buy it up all across the world. As the band are embarking on a European stadium tour at present, it appears even harder than usual! We managed to get hold of some Rammestein glassware for Gin Box subscribers from the band as well.

The gin is distilled in Denmark for Rammestein, by their good friends at 1423 Spirits under licence. We work closely with the team at 1423 in Ireland, importing other spirits like premium world rums and whiskies into Ireland that are unavailable here and this is how we managed to get hold of Rammestein Gin for your April Gin Box.
