Bayab’s story begins on the terrains of Africa where the Baobab tree of life grows. The Distillery is located in the midlands of South Africa, a beautiful region of Kwazulu-natal that extends from the Mooi river to the Drakenburg mountains. The distillery combines the natural beauty of the continent and the people to create this rare African gin. The baobab fruit at the heart of this gin comes from Zambia and Madagascar which gives unique citrus flavour. The rest of the ingredients are sourced and grown at the distillery, around the lush lands of the Kwazulu-natal midlands, which also contributes the purest of waters to blend this unique gin.
We imported this gin all the way from South Africa exclusively for The Gin Box and it has never before been available in Ireland. The Baobab fruit is sourced from Zambia and Madagascar and it is full of incredible nutrients, so much so that it is available in health food shops in powder format. It is rich in vitamins, nutrients, antioxidants and fibers too. It is a Classic Dry gin, with an African twist. The infusion of Zambian Baobab, Juniper berries, Coriander, Rosemary, Cinnamon and Coarse Salt, gives this gin a bold burst of fresh African citrus that delights the tastebuds.
Try a Bayab with Barker and Quinn Hibiscus flower infused Indian tonic. It has a touch of Honeybush for mid-pallet. This particular Hibiscus flower brings a bouquet of Raspberries and Rose petal. The taste goes from Raspberry to that of Honeybush in the mid pallet, whilst the natural quinine finishes the drink with that classic tonic aftertaste. It works lovely with the citrus flavours in the gin. Lastly, this month’s snacks come from Cachet, in the form of an organic Hazelnut and orange dark chocolate bar as well as some Forest Feast smoked almonds and peanuts.
