August’s Gin Box

We are delighted to introduce you to, Roku Japanese Gin. It is the first premium Japanese craft gin. This unique liquid was born out of a vision to create a truly authentic Japanese product that would meet demand for a crafted, premium gin with a distinctive and balanced flavour.

Meaning ‘six’ in Japanese, Roku incorporates six traditional Japanese botanicals which are infused, distilled and blended by the Japanese artisans of The House of Suntory Spirits in Osaka, Japan. With history dating back to 1899, Suntory has earned its reputation as one of Japan’s most awarded spirits producers, mastering the skill of making gin since 1936.

Roku’s flavour profile is achieved by balancing six unique Japanese botanicals with eight traditional gin botanicals. It can be enjoyed on the rocks or in a Japanese Gin & Tonic. A Japanese Gin & Tonic is served with ice and slices of ginger to complement the refreshing and citrus top notes of yuzu (Japanese lemon).

We travelled to the UK this month to get hold of a Japanese Tonic Water so that you could make an authentically Japanese gin and tonic with your Roku Gin. Try Roku with Merchants Heart Pink Peppercorn tonic water, which makes a lovely combination. Merchants Heart feature seven flavoured tonic waters in their range, and what we loved with this is the rich bitterness of the quinine and the soft spice of the pink peppercorn when married with Roku Gin. As you’ll see overleaf, we added some Lime and sliced raspberries for additional flavours which really helped to bring out the floral aromas in the gin.

We couldn’t resist a Japanese inspired, (albeit unauthentic) snack for you to munch on with your Japanese gin and tonic.

Roku is one of our favourite gins of 2019 so far, we hope you really enjoy it!

Due to its complexity and nature of unique botanicals, Roku gin is beautiful served neat. It’s also the perfect candidate for a Dry Martini. Our top recommendation is the simple yet beautiful serve below which is quick, easy to make and compliments the botanicals in the gin.
